Day 1 (6/7) - Arriving in Paris
Check-in at SeaTac was super easy (no extra charge for oversize baggage). Got good seat at the front row of cabin. Flight was smooth but couldn’t get any sleep.
Getting through the customs and finding the luggage were relatively easy. Getting through the last gate to the arrival hall was a little tricky – good entertainment for the other passengers 🙂
It took a few tries to get the right van to get me to the airport hotel. The driver was a Cambodian. The 25 Euros is well worth it.
Hotel is new and nice. Good place for staging.
Went to station in the airport to check out the area where I would be getting on the train to Paris.
After a decent dinner at a restaurant in the hotel across mine, I continued to work on the bike. It took much longer than expected. It was probably almost 12 before I went to bed. I didn’t want to leave anything for the next morning.
Day 2 (6/8) - CDG to Orleans
As expected, getting out of Paris can be a nightmare if you are not mentally prepared. That said, after it was said and done, I felt one heck of an achievement.
Modes of transportation: CDGVAL shuttle from hotel to Terminal 3; RER B train from Terminal 3 to Notre Dame station in Paris; RER C Notre Dame to Austarie; TER train from Austarie to Orleans; TAO tram from Orleans center to Lorette station; ride from station to Camping Olivet
Lunch at a Thai restaurant – pad thai + Singha
Couldn’t find the gaz canister
Bread and tuna for dinner
TBD
Day 3 (6/9) - Orleans
Ordered the breakfast combo the day before. Croissant was good but coffee is so-so.
Today is a de javu from Portugal all over again. There wasn’t any place close by that the local suggested that actually carry the fuel canister. I was heading to this one decathelon store which I believed it was just a bike shop. On the way there, I stumbled to this mega grocery story like Fredmeyer. In there, I found the gas fuel as well as all the grocery stuff that I needed. I even picked up a plate of shrimp that turned out to be so sweet.
Wtiht all the grocery that I bought, I had both lunch and dinner at the campsite. The stove was powerful and all my equipment worked well.
TBD
Day 4 (6/10) - Orleans to Jargeau
Turned out to be a very smooth day.
Got up before reception opened. Made my own coffee and egg before going to get my croissant ordered the night before. Most of the cyclist camper don’t cook and just ordered the pizza from a food truck there.
I didn’t take the tram to the starting point of the EV6. Turned out there was a bike path that took me directly to the place I wanted, only about 4 miles away. From there, as advertised, the route was very well signposted and mostly flat. As expected, it rained but didn’t last long. Got to campsite pretty early and had the tent setup in no time. Another nice campsite. Went to have lunch close by. The first restaurant i walked in, the food looked real good but it’s full. Settled with a burger at the other place instead ;(
The storm system started to come in and I hurried to make my ramen/spinach dinner before it started to rain. It pretty much rained all night. The rain was not heavy or it’s not windy like but it did get me worried about the repeat of the Portugal ride. I even thought about staying put for another day. As it turned out, the rain stopped. I made my breakfast and was on my way to the next stop
Day 5 (6/11) - Jargeau to Sully
Turned out to be a very smooth day.
